{"id":12311,"date":"2024-02-09T15:07:52","date_gmt":"2024-02-09T15:07:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/old.hafnarborg.is\/?post_type=event&#038;p=12311"},"modified":"2024-02-09T15:07:52","modified_gmt":"2024-02-09T15:07:52","slug":"artist-talk-thor-sigurthorsson","status":"publish","type":"event","link":"https:\/\/old.hafnarborg.is\/en\/event\/artist-talk-thor-sigurthorsson\/","title":{"rendered":"Artist Talk &#8211; \u00de\u00f3r Sigur\u00fe\u00f3rsson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Saturday February 10th at 2 p.m.<\/strong>, artist <strong>\u00de\u00f3r Sigur\u00fe\u00f3rsson<\/strong> will welcome guests at the museum and speak about the works he has recently created for the exhibition <em>Pointers<\/em>, currently on view at Hafnarborg.<\/p>\n<p>The artist\u2019s works are in many ways a collection of suggestions \u2013 <em>pointers<\/em> \u2013 that lead viewers on their own journey of discovery. \u00de\u00f3r often works with found objects or other seemingly mundane items that he puts into new context, drawing lines of intersection across time and space. Using material that contains remains of time, of repetition and cyclicity, of procession, the artist turns our understanding of everyday items upside down. We instead encounter subtle visual poems, where experience, perception and execution hint at our fleeting world in an enigmatic manner.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00de\u00f3r Sigur\u00fe\u00f3rsson (b. 1977) graduated with an MFA degree in art from the School of Visual Arts in New York in 2008. Previously, he graduated with a BA degree from the Iceland University of the Arts in 2002 and also studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Iceland and abroad, such as at the Reykjav\u00edk Art Museum and as part of The Wheel, a series of exhibition on art in public space presented by the Reykjav\u00edk Association of Sculptors. He has also held a number of solo exhibitions, for example in Y Gallery, Hverfisgaller\u00ed and Harbinger.
