She will discuss her work and her participation in the exhibition <em>The World Without Us,<\/em>\u00a0Hafnarborg&#8217;s fall-exhibition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Steina Vasulka (1940)<\/strong> lives and works in Sante Fe, USA. She studied Music Theory and trained as a violinist. She received a scholarship from the Czechoslovak Ministry of Culture to study at the State Music Conservatory in Prague in 1959-1964, where she met her husband, Woody Vasulka. Together they have actively developed and been pioneers in the field of video art on a global level. In 1965 they moved to New York and founded The Kitchen in SoHo, Manhattan, which was an experimental lab in the field of electronic and new media art.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the exhibition\u00a0<em>The World Without Us\u00a0<\/em>Icelandic artists have been lead together that\u00a0address the universe in their works and shead light on specific parts of it, the far away or the upclose, micro or macro. This way the many dimensions of the universe are unrevieled where at the same time we look for continuity and wholeness.<\/p>\n<p>The artists that have work in the exhibition belong to different generations and their pieces are made in various mediums. They are:\u00a0Bj\u00f6rg \u00deorsteinsd\u00f3ttir (1940), Brynhildur \u00deorgeirsd\u00f3ttir (1955), Finnur J\u00f3nsson (1892-1993), Ger\u00f0ur Helgad\u00f3ttir (1928-1975), Marta Mar\u00eda J\u00f3nsd\u00f3ttir (1974), Ragnar M\u00e1r Nikul\u00e1sson (1985), Steina Vasulka (1940) og Vilhj\u00e1lmur \u00deorberg Bergsson (1937).<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0The curators of the exhibition are <strong>A\u00f0alhei\u00f0ur Valgeirsd\u00f3ttir<\/strong> and <strong>Ald\u00eds Arnard\u00f3ttir<\/strong> but their exhibition-proposal was chosen when Hafnarborg called for proposals for the fall-exhibition for 2015.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sunday, August 30th at 3 p.m.\u00a0Hafnarborg&#8217;s guests will have the opertunity to meet Steina Vasulka.
