{"id":10084,"date":"2022-06-10T21:50:58","date_gmt":"2022-06-10T21:50:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/old.hafnarborg.is\/?p=10084"},"modified":"2022-06-19T18:35:52","modified_gmt":"2022-06-19T18:35:52","slug":"public-art-new-mural-by-juan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/old.hafnarborg.is\/en\/2022\/06\/10\/public-art-new-mural-by-juan\/","title":{"rendered":"Public Art \u2013 New Mural by Juan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At noon on June 10th, R\u00f3sa Gu\u00f0bjartsd\u00f3ttir, Mayor of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, unveiled a new mural by artist Juan on the wall of Strandgata 4, which has been decorated with various wall paintings in the last years. In the first place, Juan contacted the municipality of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur to find out if the town had a building which might be fit for this purpose, but Juan has lately caught people\u2019s attention for his murals in the public space all around Iceland.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the Culture and Tourism Committee of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur were intrigued by Juan\u2019s idea and asked him to submit a proposal for a mural on Strandgata, but the resulting sketch was a collage of monuments and public artworks in the town of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, including select works under the care of Hafnarborg. Subsequently, representatives of the town contacted the artists or the families of the artists to ask for their permission to make use of the works in this manner, which they all kindly granted, and so thanks go to everyone who made this work possible.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/old.hafnarborg.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Hafnarborg-2022-Juan-veggmynd-afhjupun-scaled.jpg\" width=\"320\" height=\"480\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>The mural depicts the following monuments and public artworks:<br \/>\n<strong>\u00b7<\/strong> <em>Worship<\/em> by \u00c1smundur Sveinsson<br \/>\n<strong>\u00b7<\/strong> <em>Shelter for Winds<\/em> by Barbara Tieaho<br \/>\n<strong>\u00b7<\/strong> <em>The Golden Gate<\/em> by Eliza Thoenen-Steinle<br \/>\n<strong>\u00b7<\/strong> <em>Monument to the First Lutheran Church in Iceland<\/em> by Hartmut Wolf, also known as Lupus<br \/>\n<strong>\u00b7<\/strong> <em>Troll<\/em> by P\u00e1ll Gu\u00f0mundsson of H\u00fasafell<br \/>\n<strong>\u00b7<\/strong> <em>Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Variations<\/em> by Sebastian<br \/>\n<strong>\u00b7<\/strong> <em>Bad Connection<\/em> by Sonja Renard<br \/>\n<strong>\u00b7<\/strong> Untitled work by S\u00f3lveig Baldursd\u00f3ttir<br \/>\n<strong>\u00b7<\/strong> <em>A Hundred Years of Solitude<\/em> and an untitled work by Sverrir \u00d3lafsson<br \/>\n<strong>\u00b7<\/strong> <em>The Watch<\/em> by Timo Solis<br \/>\n<strong>\u00b7<\/strong> <em>Sailing<\/em> by \u00deorkell Gunnar Gu\u00f0mundsson<\/p>\n<p>The mural also features a QR code which leads directly to Hafnarborg\u2019s website on public artworks in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, which will hopefully increase awareness of and people\u2019s interest in this remarkable collection, which can be visited at all hours of the day.
